BPAL Review

Previous BPAL Reviews and my Summary page of all reviews for Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents.

Scent: Sleepy Hollow: Fearful Pleasure
Description: Dried orange peels floating in simmering cider, roasted apples, smoldering firewood, chimney smoke, sassafras beer, warm hawthorn wood, and oakmoss
Thoughts: This is absolutely lovely. It is like the first smell of a holiday party as you enter someone's home where they have mulled wine and a fire going.
Buy: Keep the imp

Scent: Halloweenie 2008: Samhain
Description: Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein.
Thoughts: Lush is the only word I can use for it once it hits my skin. Lots of warm undertone, spice and woods. I don't smell the patchouli – which is good. It rich enough that I would consider this a nighttime scent.
Buy: No

Scent: Halloweenie 2008: Chant D'Automne
Description: The scent of the year's fall and the setting sun, ominous and foreboding: dried leaves, charred wood, blood musk, amber, khus, and Nicotiana tabacum.
Thoughts: This is way strong in the bottle but mellows on the skin. Mostly, it smells like I've been standing in the smoke of a fire. Not unpleasant but not to my taste. I wish the blood musk and amber came through stronger.
Buy: No

Scent: Tigerlily
Description: A feisty bouquet of golden, warm, gently honeyed lilies.
Thoughts: I have to say I am shocked, -shocked- that this smells as good on me as it does. Usually anything with the word "lily" in it smells awful. This is a warm, sweet scent that is gentle and lingering.
Buy: Keep the imp

Scent: Libertine
Description: Rosewood and chamomile with bergamot, violet, red sandalwood, primrose and Arabian musk.
Thoughts: I thought this would be too strong and flowery but it isn't. The musk mixes well with the rosewood. This would be a great character scent.
Buy: Keep the imp
