Having worked with microwave physicists for the past decade, I'm pretty confident that the world will not be destroyed by black holes. But I'm waiting right there with ya.

You may want to keep an eye in www.hasthelhcdestroyedtheearth.com. It even comes with a handy RSS feed so you can keep checking if the world exists.

Wow, I'd forgotten this was happening tonight. Thanks for the heads-up! I may have to make a store run for ice cream, or possibly beer, because I'm definitely in the camp of $POSSIBLE_APOCALYPTIC_EVENT = $NEED_FOR_ICE_CREAM_AND/OR_BOOZE.

Oh yeah... I read that the acceleration will take some time before they actually collide their first particles, so the turn on itself isn't dangerous. It's the collision that is coming in a few days/weeks (don't remember exactly how long).
