Adventures with Kittens - Pharaoh Update 2

This morning I asked Jeff to call the vet. I seem to be losing my voice. He came back with "No vomiting. They are going to feed him to 'move things along' in his system." Basically good news. While I was joking with Jeff about paying for the world most expensive turd, Jeff's phone rang.

It was the vet. Seems the front desk guy had not been up-to-date.

They fed Pharaoh at 2am. He vomited everything up at 6am, including more plastic. At this point, they are pretty sure that the unidentified mass in his intestine is cloth. We've authorized an ultrasound. Surgery is looking more and more likely.

We'll be visiting him this afternoon.

In the meantime, my heart is breaking and Isis is driving everyone to distraction demanding to know where her brother is.

Ista came through a very similar event with flying colors after being dehydrated and pukey and generally not at all a well dog.

I will be hoping for the same for your Pharaoh-boy.

poor boy! poor you! I so get your heart breaking, mine is hurting quite a lot just thinking about you all. :(

But I've got a gut feeling he's going to come out of this just fine. A bit more cautious about what he actually swallows, maybe.

Maybe someone should have a talk with him when he comes home--Pharaoh does not equal divine immortal, no matter the ancient precedent... so be careful what you put in your mouth, dear boy.

I'm sending you some supporting thoughts and P. some "easing the million-dollar-turd-along" thoughts. {{hugs}} and {{pets}}

Those fur-covered plastic cat toys are horrible... we have to keep the puppy away from them. Well wishes for your kittykins.

I feel your fear and stress, because I was there once upon a time. My Finn was probably about the same age as Pharaoh when he ate a ball of strings and ended up having two surgeries -- one to remove the string from his intestines, the second to remove most of his intestines.

BUT he came through both surgeries just FINE, and was back home quicker than a person would have been, I'm sure. He lived to give and receive many long years of love with little in the way of special needs.

This is a traumatic time for you, I know, so you have all my good wishes that it will pass quickly, and you can get on to the part where you laugh with loving bitterness about how much the danged cat is worth, now.

When Pippin was a kitten, he swallowed a chunk of shoelace and had to have surgery to remove it. It wasn't cheap and it wasn't fun, but he recovered just fine and is a happy (and obnoxiously active) cat today.

I can't promise anything, of course, but this sort of thing happens a lot, and it usually has a happy ending.

Poor kid.

As Mouseferatu pointed out, this is not an uncommon occurrence, so there's lots of hope. It just sucks on ice to wait.

Oyf! Things are progressing, altho' not as you'd probably want.

I'm he's in good hands, the poor baby.

I'll continue thinking healing thoughts for him, and good calming thoughts to the rest of you.

I'm so sorry. Hopefully everything will work out well and he'll get to come home to his family soon.

Close calls
My cats had some close calls when they were kittens, and my sister's cat Munchkin actually had to have surgery. He liked to each plastic grocery bags and chew on anything plastic.

I think there is a 24 hour vet in Lynnwood on 44th Ave, it's where we took the dog when he carved up his leg on a fence. Not sure as to your living arrangements, but that might be closer. I think there is even an emergency animal surgery/hospital near my house on 196th.

I hope the kitty get's better.
