BPAL Reviews

Previous BPAL Reviews and my Summary page of all reviews for Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents.

Scent: Nyarlathotep
Description: Brooding, yet electric: the scent of buried secrets, roiling nightmares, the essence of the Crawling Chaos, the Father of Knives and Locusts, the Hunter in the Dark. This is the blackest of ritual incenses charged with flashes of ozone.
Thoughts: I mostly get a strong smell of ozone and that's not a scent I am going for.
Buy: No.

Scent: Nyx
Description: Named in honor of the primeval Greek Goddess of Night. A scent reflecting inky black skies and eternal desolation. Night-blooming jasmine, warmed by myrrh, lifted by the promise of rose.
Thoughts: It's an interesting scent. Very exotic and mystery. It will be a great character scent or date night scent.
Buy: Keep the imp

Scent: Peitho
Description: The Goddess of Persuasion, Seduction and Sexual Wiles. A member of Aphrodite’s retinue, she is also Aphrodite’s daughter and sister to Tyche and Eunomia. Lusty myrtle and jasmine with red sandalwood, stargazer lily, and clove over an opulent, rich bed of warm musk and bourbon vanilla.
Thoughts: Comes on very strong in an unpleasant bitter manner. After about an hour, it's a soft sweet but by hour two it is completely gone. Ah, well.
Buy: No

Scent: Queen of Sheba
Description: Her scent is a bounty of golden honeyed almonds and a whisper of African and Middle Eastern spices.
Thoughts: Far too heavy and cloying on me. Unfortunately, too much of a "food" scent that is just yucky.
Buy: No

Scent: Saint Germain
Description: He is a Hermetic Magician's hero for the ages, and his scent is an elegant, timeless, truly refined cologne, bold yet classic: gilded amber, hypnotic lavender, brash carnation and deep mosses.
Thoughts: Very masculine on me. Not in a bad way. If I were into masculine scents, this would be excellent. But, alas, I'm not.
Buy: No

Scent: Seraglio
Description: This lush, indulgent perfume is based on that ancient formula. Sweet almond and Mysor sandalwood enveloped by a heady veil of Bulgarian Rose, neroli, nutmeg, clove and orange peel.
Thoughts: Far too traditionally "perfume" smelling for my taste.
Buy: No

Scent: Severin
Description: This novel tells the tale of a man, Severin, that enters into a relationship of slavery and increasingly debauched degradation with his mistress, Wanda. Dry black teas, Earl Gray, and leather.
Thoughts: Weirdly, this one smells like sweetened black licorice on me. I am not fond of black licorice.
