BPAL Reviews

Previous BPAL Reviews and my Summary page of all reviews for Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents.

Scent: Aleophile
Description: Smoldering coals heat the device from below, and steam hisses through two curved pipes, rotating the shining brass sphere. Glowing amber and citrus, labdanum, verbena, cedar, and oud.
Thoughts: It is a clean, working, metal, decidedly steampunk scent. Aftershave and good metal sweat. Sweet and warm undertone that takes over the longer you wear it.
Buy: Have a 5ml bottle.

Scent: The Antikythera Mechanism
Description: Bronze gears spin inside a polished wooden case, and an entire universe dances within. Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco.
Thoughts: This is like a bold woman walking into a proper gentlemen's club and making herself at home. It is warm and smoky with a sweet undertone. I like it.
Buy: Have a 5ml bottle.

Scent: Bess
Description: Inspired by the tragic, ill-fated love of Queen Elizabeth I and the Earl of Leicester. This is our modernization of a 17th-century perfume blend favored by British aristocracy: rosemary, orange flower, grape spirit, five rose variants, lemon peel, and mint.
Thoughts: Goes on way too floral and sweet. Mellows to a nice sweet but generic smell.
Buy: No.

Scent: Black Lotus
Description: Born in the shadows of a Temple to Set, this corrupted Egyptian scent evokes images of black pyramids, river demons, and bleak, deadly desert sands. Black lotus flower, amber, myrrh and sandalwood.
Thoughts: Very sweet when it goes on and then quickly fades to a generic sweet with a slight warm undertone.
Buy: No

Scent: Black Opal
Description: A play of geological darkness and jagged brilliance. Soft and luminescent with flashes of black fire.
Thoughts: I really like this one. A lot. There is a warm sweetness I can't name but like. There is a sharp undertone that is interesting but not too invasive.
Buy: Keep the imp.

Scent: Blood Rose
Description: Sensual, robust, and silken: voluptuous red rose bursting with lascivious red wine and sultry dragon's blood resin.
Thoughts: Very nice. Very much a night scent. Strong rose but not cloying. Warm undertone.
Buy: Keep the imp.
