Catnip Sweat...

I'm back from a 4.2 mile walk and while I'm tired, I am very energized... and exceedingly envious. You see, I was listening to Coraline by Neil Gaiman. (The audio book of Dune was read by a voice actor whose voice grated on me like nails on a chalkboard. I returned it after listening to only one tape... but I disgress...) I am utterly envious of the amazingly vivid and intriguing stories that Mr. Gaiman creates.

Coraline is well worth reading. It makes me wonder if I could ever write such marvelous stories at all... much less children's stories which require the difficult balancing act of being written for young people without being too complex as to be too hard to understand or too simple as to be too condescending to the audience.

I suppose, someday, I shall have to try.

In the meantime, I have discovered that, apparently, a sweaty human is like catnip to purring, hot kittens. From the moment I got home and sat down, I had the kittens... all of them... lying on me, rubbing up against me, purring madly and licking my skin. They seemed to be quite excited, getting unconsciously pointy when I petted them.

It all would have been unbearably cute if they hadn't been so hot against me.

Well, I think I'm off to do chores and errands.
