Shadow People

The shadow people are back. I've written about them before. You know, those people you see as shadows out of the corner of your eye but when you turn to look, you discover that it was only a bush next to a mailbox or a lamppost. Shadow people have been around me all my life. It's usually worse in the fall and winter. Some say because the shadows are longer at that time of year. I say it is because the veil is thinner and even the weaker ones can come through.

I haven't seen many shadow people since the Winter Solstice. Mostly at twilight when I go to the Lake. This isn't unusual. Once the year turns to start gaining back daylight, the shadow people recede to the nighttime. By the time summer comes about, I may have a sighting of them only once a month.

This morning, I saw one on my way into work. He was standing in the shadow of a pillar to the left of the entrance to my office building. He took off his hat and nodded to me. This is the first time I've ever seen one of them move. Of course, I was startled. Of course, I turned to look at him face on but, as always, there was nothing there.

I have a very uneasy sense about the day. I don't know why. The shadow man was not threatening. They almost always just watch. Maybe it was the fact that I saw him move and acknowledge me. I don't know. I'm going to be paranoid all day now.
