Abstract Thoughts

The Good Old Days

While I was playing Aion on my mini-vacation, I got nostalgic about the good old days of when I tested video games for a living. It was hard with long hours but I had so much fun doing it. I think, because I did a stint as a writer for Aion, I remember the fondness of working for video game companies more these days than before.

I spent fifteen years as a QA Engineer. I was good at it. I enjoyed it but I had to move out of video games because they didn't pay that well. Now, I'm a writer and it certainly doesn't pay that well and it is hard work. I love it. Don't get me wrong. You have to love being a writer. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth it.

Part of me, the QA Engineer, wants to go back to testing video games. Or, working more regularly for a video game company in general as a writer. I know why this is. I'm looking at the past through rose-tinted glasses, remembering only the good and forgetting the bad (long hours, early mornings, commutes). That doesn't stop the nostalgia though.
