BPAL

BPAL Reviews

Previous BPAL Reviews and my Summary page of all reviews for Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents.

Scent: Strangler Fig
Description: The Strangler Fig then sprouts numerous epiphytic vines that strangles and surrounds its unwilling host, and finally snuffs the life from it. Rooty, woody, with deep green tones.
Thoughts: Very nice scent. It wears well and long without being cloying. A warm sweetness. I like it.
Buy: Keep the imp

Scent: Van Van
Description: A venerable voodoo blend, used for purification of the spirit and to amplify positive personal power.
Thoughts: Oh man. Sharp and yucky in the bottle. Tried it anyway. You never know. Sharp and yucky on the skin. Ew. Ew. Ew. Had to wash my wrists of the smell about an hour later. Me and the voodoo blends do not get along.
Buy: No.

Scent: Vechernyana
Description: Three white musks with poppy and patchouli.
Thoughts: Very masculine at first and sharp. Very Russian. Much later it is sweet on my skin
Buy: No

Scent: Versailles
Description: Grand, courtly and robust: a glittering, golden scent that would do Louis XIV proud. Gilded red and gold citrus with amber, ruby roses, jasmine and orris.
Thoughts: Lush and debauched. It has a nice high tone of citrus with an undertone of baby power - which I don't usually like but in this combination, it works very nicely. (Later) "Man, this Versailles oil from BPAL makes me feel like I should be lounging somewhere, drinking wine while someone fans me."
Buy: Keep the imp. Consider a 5ml

Scent: Zorya
Description: Spices of the Orient mingle with crystalline musk, midnight flowers and cereus, jasmine, primrose and vesper iris.
Thoughts: Smells like aftershave to me and not in a good way. It's probably the iris that is clashing with me.
Buy: No
Gaming - Critical Failure

Meh. Sick.

Along with "winning the mall game" I brought home an extra bit of fun in the form of a sore throat and head cold. It has been 5 months since I got sick and this is the kind of sick that makes me pathetic. I am well enough to be up and about but sick enough to be completely miserable. I was hoping it was an allergic reaction to something I are. I say that because it started with my uvula swelling up three times its normal size. Let me tell you, that is not fun. Incidentally, that is a sign of allergies. Unfortunately, it is only swollen a little today but the sore throat is still there and the head congestion makes my head feel like it is going to fall off.

Cancelled game on Thursday but got Janet because she really needed comforting.

Cancelled for tonight - "SummerFest 2008: Cirque de la Symphonie" - Jeff is selling the tickets for $75/each. Awesome first balcony seats at Benaroya Hall. If interested, ping me.

Cancelled for tomorrow - Baby shower for Mike and Diane. The last thing I want to do is get a bunch of friends I don't usually see sick when I do see them.

I'm still going to game tomorrow night because, dammit, I bought the dress. I look fab in it. I just don't know how long I will be there.

"105 Freaky Friday Fictions" manuscript edited!

Along with the slashing and hacking of my manuscript that my mom did, she made comments after some of the stories that just warmed my heart. I decided to pull some of them out for you all to see. The FFF name is in parenthesis.

Don't think I've said, but I like these little notes about your inspiration. They do add to things.

This one I liked - it was very well done. Complete - motive, means, opportunity, conclusion.
(Drowning)

OK. Now THIS one is really freaky! Might be a good lead story - but I have 100 more to go! (Snipe Hunting)

Man, you can make a story out of anything! (Just Spam)

Shades of the Thief's Mistake. Yes, I am definitely creeped out. (A Holy Calling)

I've read or seen stories along these lines. Its an old theme, but not done quite this way. (The Harpsichord)

Just tell me you wouldn't REALLY make any such evil deal with anyone or anything. Please!! (Third Anniversary)

Definitely freaky and a little sick. Ugh. (Forever Frankie)

Just goes to prove the old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" Not that i believe that. I like this one. (Cup of Kindness)

Not freaky, but quite amusing. Actually, a nice break in all the rest. (Obituary of Roland)

I REALLY like this story. But don't find it particularly freaky like some of them. (Two Letters)

Great story. This one is worthy of The Night Gallery! I really like it - and its freaky, too. (EMP Touch)

Highly freaky! (A Perfect Match)

Good story - would make an excellent series. (Watch Me)

Definitely one of your creepier ones. (Within the Lines)
