NaNoWriMo
Nope, I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year. However, I am putting the final 3rd round edits on a novel I wrote during NaNoWriMo. Yep, I am going to finally finish the sucker and start sending it out.
I set up my edit and polish schedule like this:
Oct 30 - Nov 5: Prologue and Chapters 1-3
Nov 6 - Nov 12: Chapters 4-6
Nov 13 - Nov 19: Chapters 7-9
Nov 20 - Nov 26: Chapters 10-12
Nov 27 - Dec 3: Chapter 13
I got through the Prologue this morning. The first half of it I kept thinking: Great story, crappy execution! The second half of it I kept thinking: Hey, this really isn't bad at all. A tweak here and a tweak there... It was nice to see that all my older stuff isn't crap.
Though, rereading some of the feedback from the 1st and 2nd round readers: OW!
s33k3r shredded me up one side and down the other. There is a quote in there from him that says, "I expect better from you." Double OW! The bad thing is that he was right about 80% of the time.
mrissa was all over me on my (lack of) technical writing skills. A lot of dumb mistakes. But, through most of the feedback, all my critiques included that they really liked the story.
So, by the end of the month, I will hopefully have something worth submitting. Then, I suppose, I will be begging my author friends for help on query letters and submission packages.
