I'm back from Chicon 7 / Worldcon. My convention report is here: http://www.jenniferbrozek.com/blog/post/Chicon-7-Report.aspx

One of the things I don't talk about in my report is how difficult conventions can be. Everything is faster and more intense. Emotions run high.

I got smacked in the face on Thursday evening with an extreme disappointment professionally and it colored my entire weekend. At one point, I was seriously considering just walking away from the publishing business altogether. I'm not sure what else I would do but I wasn't thinking that far ahead.

Obviously, I'm not going to. I like writing and such. I'm not going to let a disappointment keep me down for long.

Ah, well. Life is rough sometimes. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what magnitude of event would cause that - but my sympathies...

You know as well as I do that the publishing industry is tough all over. Just tired of it sometimes.

Rejection is always very difficult no matter how long you've been at it. Taking the hits is the hardest part of the calling.

It's too bad that something that powerful happened to cloud your convention time (and career path). But you're right to let it go and focus on moving onwards.

Sorry about the disappointment on Thursday. Sometimes all we can do is keep plugging away. FWIW - I view you as an inspiration.
